The Life of a Sociable Affiliate

Welcome to my blog. I am a little late to the party I know. I am Robert Berrisford I work for CK Net Limited, a search affiliate.

Another Tit-Bit...

I graduated from Bournemouth University Media School in 2004 with an MA in Interactive Marketing and after a spot of traveling I joined dgm before moving onto CK Net 9 months later.

Dgm Launches Broadband Compare

dgm has today launched its quite funky Broadband Compare in beta.

This allows affiliates to use dgm’s group of creative to compare broadband online without the need to integrate the Sam Knows API.

Anyone who has tried to build a broadband site with phone number and post code checker knows it can be a little tricky on the coding side of things, so this is sure to make things easier.

Broadband Compare also allows you to easily add advertisers not on the dgm network.
Like I say, this is still in beta, so the creative needs a little work, but I think it is a pretty innovative bit of kit.

If you have any questions you can get in contact with Cat or Jess at dgm or read the dgm blog on the matter.

Google Launch Hitwise Killer

Adplanner

Google will tomorrow launch Adplanner, which looks like it could be its own version of Hitwise.

This is what was said about adplanner:

“AdPlanner, was designed to help agencies identify sites where their target audience might be active. While it uses audience measurement data, AdPlanner also combines it with search engine data and information from third parties, to determine with more precision what sites attract a certain demographic audience. It then uses that data to help agencies determine where to place ads.”

This, if you read between the lines, is exactly what Hitwise does, though it is not clear what level of detail Adplanner will give you.

Hitwise is a great tool, giving loads of details on things like click stream, competitor analysis and search terms. But if adplanner can do half of what Hitwise does for free, compared to the up to £60K Hitwise will charge you, times could prove difficult for the company moving forward.

Hitwise has always been good for search and as a benchmarking tool, where as Adplanner (as the name would suggest) has been built for CPM planners, so we will have to see if the data can be manipulated in the same way

I have applied for an adplanner account for when it goes live tomorrow, so will report back if and when I have had a play.

edit: after some digging i have found a screen shot of the new system here

Dragon Boat Racing With Tradedoubler

Thursday Afternoon/ Night was a charity dragon boat racing day with Tradedoubler. Which basically involves 10 people in a boat rowing, and someone at the front beating a drum.

TD Dragon Boat 2Needless to say the powerhouse that were the Vikings reined victorious, the team including (i hope i havent missed anyone):

Rob “the power” Berrisford
Ennis “the adonis” Al-Saiegh
Lee “guns” Griffin
Siri “The Engine” Anderson
Wolfy “leading from the front” Light-Wilkinson
Jason “the beef cake” Norris
Daniel “the heckler” Richards
Claudia “Drummer Girl” Dimagile
Magnus and Dafydd the anchors at the back
George “The Capatin” Head
and Jason “the trator” Fuller

Everyone from drummer girl keeping us in line, to the two lads at the front setting the pace right through to the engine room in the mid section did a sterling job.

TD Dragon Boat 1

Was a great afternoon out, a great bonding experience, involving team work, heckling and some great sets of guns.

Over £10K was raised for the Anthony Nolan trust for leukemia.

Thanks Tradedoubler.

A4U Awards - As it Happened

Matt Wood

I know I am late, and that this is barely a blog at the moment due to the absolute lack of new content but I would like to thank Matt and his cronies for the A4U awards.

A great night was had by all and I think it shows how far affiliate marketing has come as an industry that everyone was dressed in black tie rather than the traditional jeans and tshirt combo, or the more recent jacket jeans combo favored by the digital media agencies.

We started with a quick hour with dgm in the met bar, before another hour with TD and Sky on the 28th Floor of the Hilton, and heading into for the obligatory Champaign reception.

Massive congratulations to all the winners, you all know who they are by now. I am gutted I missed the econversions video from Vegas, but I was at the bar. Though I have heard that JJJ didn’t even thank me, can’t be true surely.

Post the awards a few of us shot to the terminally bad Tiger Tiger, then into a casino. Eventually after looking for a 24 hour Chinese without success, 11 of us decided to cram into a lift made for 4 to raid someone’s minibar. I will leave the names of the selected 11 out of this as I don’t want to incriminate anyone, but let’s just say there were some highly influential members of the affiliate community and people who probably shouldn’t be drinking at 5:00 on a Friday morning.

After about 40 minutes stuck in somewhere between the basement and the ground floor, the fire brigade finally managed crowbar the door open and people made their way to the mini bar, via the stairs.

I thankfully, though unusually, knew my limits and stumbled home at about 6 am leaving the rest to it. Though I hear it all got very messy, with a member of agency staff vomiting on a member of their networks bed, and a prominent award winning affiliate manager going through the wire and going straight into the office the next morning.

Bring on the next one!

What am I wearing right now – Shorts, Flip Flops, and a jumper because it was getting a little chilly

P.s. Thanks to Cat for bullying me into updating this pathetic excuse for a blog.

Rich List 2008 Which Affiliate Made it?

Money ClipThe Sunday Times Rich list came out this weekend, with the usual suspects at the top of the list, including the legend that is Roman.

A quick scan of the internet area brings up some familiar names including Duncan Camron, co-founder of MoneySupermarket (who are basically an affiliate with a sh*t load of money) at £161 Million.

Richard Goulding and Simone Perree of Play.com in at £100 million each. Though with Play.com rumored to be selling 80 copies of GTA 4 a minute, that could be going up quickly.

Andrew Michael who started Fast Hosts at 17 (now 28) in at £46M

I was slightly surprised to see our very own Jamie Harwood on the Young Rich List, for one I always thought he was well over 30. A huge congratulations to a Jamie who if you believe the numbers came in above Lewis Hamilton and John Terry.

Jamie started UK Web Media back in the early days and has never rested on his laurels, a massive congratulations to him and the team at UKWM.

The big question is, mate can i borrow a tenner?
