3 Business Lessons Learnt in Strip Clubs!

(not that i go to this sort of establishment obviously)

I was chatting to some mates this weekend about strip clubs and the things they do to take advantage of their drunk and horny customers.

In this line of work you tend to end up in lappys quite a bit. The industry is made up, in its bulk, by men, I know there are some very good ladies working in the industry, but the fact is, there are more men, meaning that social gatherings end up in these establishments some times.

I am not going to get into an argument about the rights and wrongs of peelers, just highlight how strippers and managers take advantage and how blokes tend to fall for it and how we can learn from these experiances.

1: Do business for the right reasons

Lets get this straight exotic dancers are in this for the money, they are not dancing for the fun of it and they do not “really like you”. Thinking you are in love with a stripper on a drunken night out is a very quick way to spend £300 on dances then go home alone.

2: Discuss payment terms before signing a Contract

This is a popular habbit of gentlemens establishments, charging you a 20% service change for drinks and dances paid for on a card. It doesn’t cost them any more to conduct business via credit card then ASDA so why do they add 20% on the top?

3: Consider your options before signing a contract.

Business shouldnt be done in the heat of the moment, you should always weigh up the risk reward of business transactions, consider what you are getting for your money and what you will gain from this transaction. By this i am talking about “shall i keep going?”.

Anyone got any to add?

The Slanket - Brilliant

The Mighty SlanketThe Slanket craze is sweeping the nation, well a few of us love them anyway.

It is basically a blanket with sleeves, meaning you can work or drink tea without getting cold arms.

Unfortunately you have to pay $51 postage to get it to the UK, so I am teaming up with some of the greatest minds in affiliate marketing (Matt, Chris, Jess, Cat, Michelle) to buy the UK franchise.

Brilliant!!!

Nothing to do with Affiliate Marketing really, unless you work from home, in which case it would be brilliant, and cheaper than running the heating all day.

Call for Guest Bloggers

The updates on this blog have been pathetic recently, I have been massively busy with a few things both in and out of work and for that I apologise.

I have a well deserved holiday booked in next week in New York, so if anyone would like to submit a guest post it would be great to cover the time while I am away.

I have also just booked 10 days in LA and Vegas for the Calzaghe fight, so will need plenty to cover then.

If you fancy submitting something please email me rob at ck - net dot com

Sponsor Oli to Go to the North Pole, or Grow a Beard

North Pole

Oliver Westbury one of our tech guys is hoping to become one of the first deaf people ever to walk to the North Pole in April. He and his team will be traveling on foot from latitude 89N to the North pole which is 90N.

It is a walk over ice and snow of about 70 miles pulling 40Kg of Kit.

He is hoping the raise £27K in aid of the National Deaf Children’s Society which, i am sure you will agree is a massive task.

I hope some of you can dig deep and sponsor him, even if it just a few quid.

Oli Grows a beard

Oli is also growing a beard to a) raise more money and b) keep his boat race warmer on this trip to the pole.

If you would like to help Oli out on his quest you can sponsor him here and here

Oli is also running three Marathons and a Triathlon in training and to raise more money.

I wish him all the luck in the world, he better not fall through the ice because good developers are hard to find.

Good Week, Bad Week

Good Week

Buy.at and AOL - Massive congratulations to the buy.at shareholders for cashing in and selling to AOL. This should help buy.at push on, not only in the UK but also with Mal in the US. Being AOL owned will give buy.at a huge amount of credibility in the US and I wish the big fella all the luck in the world.

A4U Awards - Mr Wood this week launched the A4U awards which has had quite a bit of press, I think the awards are great for the industry. It will take another step into bringing affiliate marketing into the main stream. Looks like I will have to buy a suit.

Affiliate Raspberries - The award ceremony that the people really want to see was announced this week, with the likely date being the 28th or May, just over a week before the A4U awards.

This should be a good night, we are organizing it at the moment, and I will let people know the details soon.

Bad Week

A4U Awards - I am sorry Matt but I have put the A4U awards in both good week and bad week. The awards have taken a bit of stick this week from a few corners, some of it rightly some of it wrongly. I will let people make their own decisions on this.

Google - are worried this week with the proposed take over of Yahoo by MSN, they have already been seen piping up with monopolies and mergers threats.

I think it would be good news for advertisers (including affiliates), with a genuine competitor to Google in the space. Although I think both MSN and Yahoo have a lot of ground to make up, not just in terms of market share but also with technology and account management.

England Rugby - What the hell happened? I have had a huge amount of abuse from the Welsh this week, namely Matt Brown. Cheers Lads
